Não, ele não desiste. Depois de ficar em segundo lugar na disputa de uma Gravel Race no fim de janeiro deste ano, o norte-americano Lance Armstrong voltou a competir no último final semana, dessa vez numa prova de revezamento de mountain bike no Arizona (EUA), chamada “24 Hours of Old Pueblo”, na qual conquistou a terceira colocação. Armstrong correu a prova juntamente com George Hincapie, Christian Vande Velde e Dylan Casey, três ex-companheiros de sua antiga equipe U.S Postal, que atualmente se encontram aposentados do ciclismo profissional.
O norte-americano foi banido perpetuamente do ciclismo em 2012 por conta de doping – o que fez com que ele perdesse os sete títulos que havia conquistado no Tour de France -, porém ainda continua participando de provas não regulamentadas pela UCI (União Ciclística Internacional), como a “24 Hours of Old Pueblo”. Mas Lance Armstrong não é o único do grupo com o currículo manchado. Hincapie e Vande Velde também chegaram a ser suspensos por testarem positivo no exame antidoping. Compatriota de Lance, Hincapie chegou inclusive a ser interrogado na investigação sobre o caso de doping do ex-campeão do Tour de France, na qual acabou admitindo seu envolvimento no esquema ilícito da US Postal e depondo contra Armstrong. Mas a julgar pela parceria na prova de MTB do último final de semana, parece que ambos na guardaram mágoa sobre o acontecido.
