Após recuperar a camisa amarela de Fabio Aru (Astana) no último sábado, Christopher Froome (Sky) manteve a liderança após a 16ª etapa do Tour de France, nesta terça. No dia após a segunda-feira de descanso, Michael Matthews (Sunweb) foi o vencedor, superando Edvald Boasson Hagen e John Degenkolb com o tempo de 3h38min15s.

Indo de Le Puy-en-Velay até Romans-sur-Isère, o percurso de 165km e duas montanhas teve um vento cruzado constante que atrapalhou os ciclistas. George Bennett abandonou o Tour após se acidentar. Matthews conseguiu se destacar no sprint final e cruzou a linha de chegada praticamente junto com segundo e terceiro colocados.
A vitória fez Matthews se aproximar de Marcel Kittel na disputa pela camisa verde, a liderança por pontos – o alemão teve sua vantagem diminuída para 29 pontos. No ranking geral por tempo, as vantagens não se alteraram se comparadas a domingo: Froome tem 18s de vantagem para Fabio Aru e 23s para Romain Bardet. O Team Sky ainda está em primeiro na competição por equipes.
A etapa desta quarta-feira, a 17ª, vai de La Mure até Serre-Chevalier e reserva duas grandes montanhas – uma delas, a Col du Galibier, é a mais alta desta edição do Tour, com mais de 2.500 metros.
