A cidade de Peruíbe, no litoral sul paulista, foi palco no domingo (3) da etapa de abertura do Pro Series 2017, circuito organizado pela Federação Paulista de Triathlon (SPTri) e válido pelo Campeonato Paulista de Triathlon Sprint. Em razão das condições do mar, a etapa inaugural do Pro Series teve de ser transformada num duathlon, com 5 km de corrida, 20 km de ciclismo e outros 2,5 km de corrida.
Na elite masculina, Iuri Vinuto, Flávio Queiroga e Manoel Messias, todos atletas do Sesi-SP, promoveram uma disputa acirrada pelo título. Messias, que liderou desde a primeira corrida, acabou levando a etapa ao completar o percurso em 54min19seg. Entre as mulheres, Bia Neres, do Esporte Clube Pinheiros, dominou de ponta a ponta e venceu com o tempo de 1h01min51seg, superando em mais de 3min Luisa Baptista, do Sesi-SP, segunda colocada.
A etapa de Peruíbe distribuiu R$ 12 mil como premiação. Além de contar pontos para o Campeonato Paulista Paulista de Triathlon Sprint, também serviu de seletiva para a Copa Brasil de Triathlon, programada para Manaus (AM). As próximas etapas do Pro Series 2017 acontecerão no dia 3 de junho, no Guarujá (SP), e no dia 25 de novembro, em Sorocaba (SP).
