Em Sydney-2000, um jovem de 19 anos conquistava a medalha de ouro nos 50m livre. Dezesseis anos depois, já com 35 anos, este mesmo atleta repete o feito e é bicampeão olímpico na mesma prova. Anthony Ervin é o responsável por este feito histórico.
Numa final imprevisível, o veterano velocista conseguiu se sobressair e superar o então campeão olímpico Florent Manaudou e seu compatriota Nathan Adrian, além do brasileiro Bruno Fratus que foi o sexto colocado.
